On November 22, 1917 the NHA (National Hockey Association) owners met at the Windsor Hotel to settle problems of the inner-league fighting, mainly caused by the Toronto owner Eddie Livingstone. Since they did not want Livingstone in their league the NHA owners created a new league, and left Livingstone by himself in the NHA. And so the National Hockey League was born with Frank Calder the secretary for the NHA as the new league's president.
